SKIN CARE THIS HOLI
Come march with arrival of spring brings the festival
of colors that marks the end of winter season Thought the festival initially involved
using of traditional colors made from plants or natural extracts gradually,
synthetic colors and harmful dyes, most of which contain a dangerous chemicals
and can cause irreversible harmful damage to the skin, have now replaced these
natural colors.
Prevention
is always better than cure. A few precautions taken before enjoying the
festival of colors will help in protecting your skin from any kind of rashes,
irritation, skin allergy or dryness.
Apply
loads of moisturing cream like Neutrogena® Norwegian Formula Body Moisturizer
or emulsion will help prevent direct damage caused by the colors and help in
removing the color easily.
Wear
full sleeves clothes that can cover maximum part of body, to avoid exposure to colors
and also the harmful UV rays while playing in the sun.
Use
the Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50 or the body mist with spf
30 for larger body surface areas before indulging in the color play will
prevent any form of sun burns or rashes.
The hair is very prone to getting turn brittle and
extremely dry if the holi colors remain unwashed for long. Make sure you wash
your hair immediately and not allow the colors to dry to avoid any damage to
the scalp applying a nice layer of oil to your hair before playing holi also
helps in preventing damage
CLEANSING
Cleaning the skin and hair finally of all the colors
is the most important aspect. Gently wash, preferably with a moisturizing soap
or gentle face washes like Neutrogena® Extra Gentle
Cleanser or Neutrogena® Liquid Neutrogena enriched with
glycerine. Avoid rubbing your skin vigorously using a scrubber or harmful
chemicals like petrol or kerosene to remove resistant colors from skin -- it
will be much easier to get rid of the colors if you've used a moisturizer or
oil before.
Use a mild cleanser to clean the colors. Oil at times
on rubbing helps in removing the colors especially the oil based one Follow
this up with lots of moisturizer, specially ones that are meant for sensitive
skin.
Avoid
Strong and harsh chemicals in colors can cause itching
allergic rashes which can lead to skin
reaction seen in many individuals
especially in people with sensitive atopic skin.
Sun burn is also very commonly seen dermatologists
after holi. Dry skin leaves a lot of scope for these harmful chemicals as the
skin layer allows the color to penetrate easily.
Avoid any kind of beauty treatments for few days prior
to the festival as it can cause damage and further aggravate skin allergies. According to
dermatologists, if some kind of irritation occurs then immediately wash off
color from that part of body and apply soothing calamine lotion. Avoid sunlight
in case the skin is seriously affected, as it will increase the irritation.
